Probabilistic analysis of structural robustness

Dean Čizmar, Vlatka Rajčić, Poul Henning Kirkegaard, John Dalsgaard Sorensen

Abstract

Various definitions of structural robustness, and robustness requirements based on structural Eurocodes, are logically presented. Various mathematical models that are used for quantifying structural robustness, i.e. deterministic and probabilistic ones, and risk theory based models, are analyzed. A new definition of the robustness index, as based on reliability engineering, is proposed. A numerical example of the procedure for estimating robustness is analyzed in accordance with the proposed probabilistic definition.
